What are Clear Aligners?
Many times, patients needed orthodontic care when they were children but due to circumstances beyond their control were unable to do so. Perhaps, it was too expensive for the family to afford. Perhaps, they simply did not want to be stuck with a mouthful of unsightly braces. Perhaps, they were concerned about getting food stuck in their braces and being embarrassed. Or perhaps, the idea of wearing them 24 hours a day was simply too much. Well, the good news is now there is an affordable option of orthodontic treatment that is unlike anything they had while growing up.
How about an alternative that does not involve any of the negative aspects of conventional braces? It embraces a new way of thinking with regard to orthodontic treatment. It does not cause the typical discomfort or pain the way braces sometimes do. Food will not get stuck in them either. Remarkably, this option does not have wires or brackets to affix to the patient’s teeth. Instead, it employs the use of clear plastic trays to provide pressure, efficiently moving the teeth to their correct places. The best part about this option? They can be removed at any time. This allows the patient to brush and floss easily. They can also rest easy while eating and not have to worry about food getting caught in them. What is this option called? It is clear aligners and it is taking the world by storm.
Patients who are interested in finding out the details about clear aligners should come to our Artistic Dental office. We are here to answer any questions you might have.
The Clear Aligners Concept
The most common complaints about traditional braces are the pain and discomfort following each appointment when the wires are tightened or adjusted. With clear aligners, there is none of that. There are no wires and no brackets at all. Clear aligners do not secure anything to the patient’s teeth at all. The trays are swapped out every two weeks, to maintain the proper pressure and ensure the orthodontic treatment goal is met.
Why Clear Aligners?
There are no sharp edges with clear aligners. Nothing to poke the patient’s tongue, gums, or the inside of their cheeks. Many patients have issues with traditional braces rubbing the soft tissues of their mouth raw. This is not a concern with clear aligners. The plastic trays are made to exact measurements of the patient’s teeth and will fit perfectly. There is no need for adjustments. The trays do need to be worn approximately 22 hours a day in order to be successful.
The Clear Aligners Choice
When most people imagine someone wearing braces, they picture the traditional type with metal wires and brackets gleaming every time they smile. That is the old way of doing things. Concepts have changed over the last few decades. Clear aligners are one of those changes. When patients wear clear aligners, the trays are practically invisible. Patients are able to speak clearly, while wearing them, and they do not have to feel self-conscious out in public.
