Emergency Dentistry in Jackson NJ

Emergency Dental Care in Jackson provided by Drs. Bookman, Goldberg, and Seto at Artistic Dental.

Concerned white patient discussing her tooth pain with her dentist while sitting in a dental chair

A toothache that wakes you up at 2 a.m. A cracked tooth from biting into something unexpected. A knocked-out tooth from a fall during a weekend game with the kids. Dental emergencies do not announce themselves, and they rarely wait for a convenient moment. What they do demand is fast, capable care, because the difference between saving and losing a tooth often comes down to how quickly you act. The good news is that you do not have to navigate that moment alone, and knowing where to turn before an emergency happens can make all the difference.

At Artistic Dental in Jackson Township, NJ, we are proud to offer compassionate, prompt emergency dental care to patients throughout Jackson, Lakewood, Howell, and Toms River. Our experienced team, led by Dr. Jason Goldberg, Dr. Miryam Bookman, and Dr. Ariane Seto, is equipped to assess and treat a wide range of urgent dental situations so you can get out of pain and back to your life as quickly as possible. Whether you are a current patient or someone who needs help right away, our dental services are here for you.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

Not every dental concern requires same-day care, but many situations absolutely do. Understanding which issues need immediate attention helps you respond confidently when something goes wrong.

Some of the most common dental emergencies include the following:

  • A severe or persistent toothache that does not respond to over-the-counter pain relief
  • A cracked, chipped, or fractured tooth, especially when accompanied by pain
  • A knocked-out tooth (time is critical in these cases)
  • A lost or broken dental crown or filling that exposes the tooth
  • A dental abscess or signs of oral infection, such as swelling, fever, or a bad taste
  • A broken orthodontic wire or appliance that is causing injury to the soft tissue
  • Significant bleeding in the mouth that does not subside

This list is not exhaustive. When in doubt, call us. It is always better to check than to wait for a problem that may be getting worse.

How to Handle a Dental Emergency Before You Arrive

The following are steps you can take for some of the most common dental emergencies we treat at Artistic Dental.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Pick up the tooth by the crown, not the root, and rinse it gently with water. If possible, place it back in the socket or store it in a small container of milk to keep it moist. Contact us immediately. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, dental emergencies account for close to 1.9 million emergency department visits each year in the United States, many of which could be better addressed by a dental provider with the right tools to treat the underlying cause.

Cracked or Fractured Tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to the outside of your face to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on that side and contact us as soon as possible. A root canal may be needed if the fracture has reached the pulp.

Lost Crown or Filling

A lost dental crown can leave the underlying tooth structure exposed and sensitive. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can provide short-term coverage, but you should schedule an appointment right away to prevent further damage or infection.

Toothache

Rinse with warm salt water and floss carefully around the area to rule out trapped food as the cause. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum or tooth. If the pain is severe or accompanied by swelling, treat this as an emergency and call us.

Dental Abscess

An abscess is an infection that will not resolve on its own. This is among the most urgent dental situations because the infection can spread. Rinse with mild salt water several times a day to help draw out the infection, and contact our office immediately.
